A dedicated server in Germany is a great fit for projects that need the resources of a physical machine, from online stores and databases to virtualization and business services. Unlike a VPS, the hardware is dedicated to one customer, and you can choose a configuration that fits your workload.
For compute-intensive tasks, processor performance and RAM capacity matter most. Databases often benefit from fast storage, while archives and backups need enough capacity. There's no single configuration that's best for every project. The right choice depends on what you plan to run on your server.
Before ordering, compare the processor and memory along with the drives, network port, included traffic, and available management tools. This helps you avoid unnecessary costs and account for your software requirements upfront.

Hetzner data center infrastructure
Hetzner offers several dedicated server lines for different workloads. Consider AX and EX for websites, applications, and virtualization, and SX when storage capacity is your priority. Compare the specifications of each model to find the right fit for your project.
AX-Line servers use AMD processors, while EX-Line servers use Intel. Single-core performance can matter for web applications and game servers, while virtual machines may benefit from more cores and RAM. For databases, storage speed is often a priority. The right combination depends on your software and workload.
SX-Line is designed primarily for storage workloads, including file archives, backups, and large data sets. Available models, drive counts, and RAID options depend on your chosen plan.

Hosting in Germany is a good choice for projects that need a server physically located in Europe. When choosing a configuration, check the network port speed, included traffic, IP address options, and terms for additional network services.
A location in Germany can be a good fit for serving a European audience and keeping infrastructure within the country. Connection latency depends on more than distance to the data center. The network route, the user's connection, and other factors also play a role.
For streaming services, large file transfers, and other network-intensive workloads, check traffic limits and pricing in advance. Port speed alone does not determine the actual connection speed for each user.

A physical server is well suited for online stores, web applications, game servers, databases, and virtual machines. With the right drives, it can also support file storage or a backup system.
Websites and applications typically need a balance of processing power, RAM, and storage speed. For virtualization, consider the number of virtual machines running at the same time and allow for enough memory. Databases benefit from suitable drive performance, while archives require sufficient capacity and a backup strategy.
One configuration can often support several workloads. Before ordering, consider your current usage, potential growth, and software requirements.
A dedicated server gives you administrative access to configure your software environment, install the services you need, and manage your system. Available remote access tools depend on the hardware and your chosen plan.
Server management tools may include OS reinstallation, system recovery, and a remote console. Support for specific Linux distributions or Windows Server, along with licensing terms, depends on your configuration and should be confirmed before ordering.
If you plan to host websites, the ISPmanager control panel can simplify day-to-day administration. Check whether it can be installed and what terms apply to your chosen server.

Hetzner Robot lets you manage your dedicated server independently of its installed software. You can reboot the hardware, activate the Rescue System, and start system recovery. This is especially useful if your primary OS won't boot or you need to reinstall the server.
The Rescue System is a temporary Linux environment that boots over the network using PXE and runs in your server's memory. After rebooting, you can connect via SSH, check drives, access data, and restore the installed system.
The Rescue System includes Installimage, a tool for installing supported Linux distributions, partitioning drives, and configuring software RAID and LVM. To install your own OS from an ISO or access the boot screen, you can request a separate remote KVM console through Hetzner Robot. Availability and access terms are confirmed separately.

Already renting a Hetzner dedicated server? In some cases, you can transfer it to our management without ordering new hardware. This lets you keep your current configuration and arrange new billing and support terms.
The transfer is initiated using a token in Hetzner Robot. After creating the token, submit a request through our support center. Our team will check whether the transfer is possible, confirm the service terms, and guide you through the next steps.
Transfers are completed only in accordance with Hetzner's rules and after the necessary checks. Whether IP addresses can be retained, downtime can be avoided, and additional services can be transferred depends on your specific situation and cannot be guaranteed in advance.
